May 11, 2017 Family Learning Night - Welcome to the Jungle
Ellis hosted a family learning night at the school where the students and their families participated in many jungle themed activities. Each grade level provided an activity for the students such as crafts, face painting and interactive scavenger hunts. The cafeteria provided yummy jungle themed treats and the library provided the book fair for the students all week and during family night for the family too. The students had a great time. Here are some pictures of a few of our students standing in front of their interactive animal posters and some pictures of the snacks. April 2017Pride of the Jungle Students
for the month of March - Elijah Smith & Christian Vazquez Congratulations for showing great character!! Elias Hundsdorfer planned a super special surprise for my birthday. He knew how much I loved the Peanuts Theme song - Linus & Lucy. I had asked him if he knew how to play it. He said he didn't. So, he spent the last several months learning the song so he could play it for me. He also played a song titled, Lunar Eclipse. What a beautiful song! Elias and his mom completely surprised me by bringing our entire class in to our piano room so he could play. I had no idea. What a fantastic birthday surprise. My students are awesome!!!!
Thank you Elias!! Annie
All of the Ellis students went to Emge to attend their spring Musical - Annie. It is so exciting to see some of our former students on stage. The musical was fantastic and the students are extremely talented. WOW!! Here is a picture with 3 of my former students -
Wini James, Sara Huller and Eric Perschbacher. I am so proud of ALL of you! After the play we stayed at Harmony to meet our pen pals. We have been writing to the 4th grade students in Mrs. Adamson's class since the beginning of the school year. The students really enjoyed meeting their pals in person. Before we headed back to Ellis we took a tour of the Harmony Intermediate Center so the students could see where they will be going next year!
We started swim lessons at the YMCA.
The 3rd grade will attend for 6 weeks! The students are really enjoying the weekly lessons. April Character Ed Assembly
The assembly was led by some of the 3rd grade students, including Michael Bell and Trenton Piker. Way to go boys! The students had a great time creating their volcanos. They couldn't wait to get outside to erupt them. We had to wait in between the rain, wind, and PARCC testing. The wait was worth it and the students had a blast. Take a look at some of the pictures of their unique creations.
March 2017
On March 3rd we were fortunate to have a real author visit our school. Her name is Sarah Reida and she is from Millstadt, Illinois. Her book is titled Monsterville: A Lissa Black Production. During her visit she explained what it was like to get a book published. It takes a lot of hard work and perseverance. The students who purchased books were given a personalized autographed copy of the book.
Quizlet
Quizlet is a fun way for the students to practice their vocabulary words each week. The students enjoy using the flashcards and games to learn each week. Last week we tried Quizlet Live for the first time. The students are randomly put on teams (selected by the computer) and compete live. The first team to answer all of the vocabulary terms correctly wins. February 2017

The students had a good time participating in the reader's theatre Mr. Popper's Penguins. This went along with our reading story for the week, Penguin Chick.
In this team building activity the students had to line up in order from shortest to tallest without talking. It was fun to watch them communicate with their hands and gestures.
In another team building activity the students were to create a chain link. The students were all given the same amount of paper and tape. The challenge was to see whose link was the longest.
